Review: Starbucks Salted Caramel Mocha Strato
This one threw me for a loop. I expected a caramel-forward drink — something sweet and dessert-like, in line with Starbucks’ usual caramel lineup. Instead, what I got was basically a mocha Strato with a hint of caramel, and honestly? It worked.
The top foam, blended with the caramel drizzle, tasted surprisingly similar to the Brown Sugar Strato, which set me up to expect more sweetness than depth. But once you get into the drink itself, the mocha takes over and pushes the caramel into the background. The result is smoother and more balanced than I imagined. Even as someone who isn’t usually big on mocha, I found myself really enjoying it.
That said, this isn’t the drink for caramel lovers — it just doesn’t showcase the caramel the way you’d expect. Instead, it’s a drink for mocha fans who want a lighter, frothier version of their usual order.
A Tall was enough for me, but I’m glad I tried it. It’s one of those happy accidents where the mix-up gave me something better than I thought I’d ordered.
Bottom Line:
If you love mocha and want it in a lighter, more airy form, the Salted Caramel Mocha Strato is worth trying. But if you’re chasing that classic caramel sweetness, this one will probably leave you wanting more.
If you’d like to try this one at home, I’ll be posting a copycat recipe for the Salted Caramel Mocha Strato next week on Substack — exactly as it tasted here, mocha-forward with just a touch of caramel.
