Review: Starbucks Brown Sugar Strato
The Brown Sugar Strato feels like Starbucks finally found the sweet spot between dessert and coffee. The brown sugar syrup leans more sweet than rich, but there’s just enough of that molasses edge to set it apart from a standard caramel drink.
The espresso itself is surprisingly smooth. Stronger than you might expect from a flavored drink, but balanced enough that it never feels harsh. Because it’s shaken, the texture is completely different from a latte — light, frothy, and airy. The first few sips almost sneak up on you, with flavor hitting before you even realize how easy it is to drink.
This is one of those rare Starbucks drinks that scales well: a Tall for a quick treat, or a Grande when you want more without it ever feeling too heavy.
Bottom Line:
The Brown Sugar Strato is the happy medium. Sweet without being overwhelming, coffee-forward without being bitter. It’s a drink that works if you’re craving balance — and it’s one I’d happily order again.
✨ Want to make your own version at home? Next week I’ll be posting a copycat recipe on Substack that shows you how to nail that frothy shaken espresso texture without Starbucks’ setup.
