Copycat Recipe: Krispy Kreme Easter Egg Basket Doughnut
Ingredients
Dough
- 2¼ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup sugar
- 2¼ tsp active dry yeast
- ¾ cup warm milk
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp salt
Basket Icing
- 1½ cups icing sugar
- 3 tbsp milk
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- light brown food colouring (optional)
Toppings
- mini candy eggs or sprinkles
- extra icing for piping texture
Instructions
1. Activate yeast
Mix warm milk and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
2. Make dough
Add sugar, egg, butter, and salt.
Mix in flour until a soft dough forms.
3. Knead
Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth.
4. Rise
Cover and let rise 1 hour until doubled.
5. Shape
Roll out dough and cut into rounds.
6. Second rise
Let rest 20–30 minutes.
7. Fry
Fry at 350°F (175°C) until golden on both sides.
8. Make icing
Mix icing sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
9. Decorate
Dip doughnuts in icing.
Pipe lines to mimic basket texture.
Add candy eggs or sprinkles.
Tips
- Use thicker icing for basket texture
- Add toppings while icing is still wet
- Don’t overcrowd oil while frying
- Let icing set before stacking
