Crumbl Review : Chocolate Cake Batter Cookie
This is one of those cookies where you pretty much know what you’re walking into… but somehow it still catches you a little off guard in a good way. Chocolate cake batter can go one of two ways: either it becomes aggressively sweet and artificial, or it leans into that deeper cocoa flavour with the creamy richness you actually want from “batter.” Crumbl chose the second path here — and it works.
The first thing I noticed was the texture: it’s extremely soft, almost brownie-like, but without crossing into the messy, falling-apart zone. It has that velvety bite you expect from cake batter — thick but smooth, rich but not heavy. There’s a slight gooiness in the center that makes it feel warm and melty even when the cookie isn’t hot.
Flavour-wise, it’s all chocolate, but in a way that tastes like actual cake batter rather than just cocoa powder. There’s a richness to it — a real dessert richness — but it somehow avoids becoming tooth-achingly sweet. The sweetness is there, absolutely, but it’s controlled. The cocoa is present enough to give depth, so you get more than just sugar.
The frosting on top is where the “batter” feeling really comes through. It’s creamy, whipped, and smooth, almost like someone mixed chocolate pudding with buttercream but kept the sweetness in check. It adds softness to every bite without taking over the flavour.
Overall, this cookie feels like something you could comfortably finish without wanting to tap out halfway through. It’s indulgent, but not overwhelming. It’s chocolatey, but not bitter. It’s sweet, but not cloying.
If you like chocolate — real chocolate, not chalky cocoa or overly sugary chocolate icing — this one is definitely a winner. I’d get it again easily, and it’s one of the better chocolate-based cookies Crumbl has put out in a while.
