Crumbl Review: Dark Dream Cookie
When Crumbl names something “Dark Dream,” you know you’re in for a chocolate-heavy experience — and this cookie definitely delivers on that promise. But with such a bold title comes high expectations, and while this cookie does lean into the deep cocoa territory, there are things about it that make it more of a one-time try than a weekly craving.
First Impressions
From the moment you see it, the Dark Dream cookie looks unapologetically chocolate-forward. The entire cookie is a glossy dark brown, loaded with rich chocolate chunks that stand out even before you take a bite. You expect something fudgy and indulgent, like biting into the gooey center of a brownie.
Taste
Biting in, the chocolate intensity is unmistakable. This isn’t a “milk chocolate for kids” kind of flavor — it’s bold, dark, and leaning into that almost bittersweet territory. For anyone who loves a true dark chocolate bite, this one will scratch that itch. The issue? It doesn’t have much else going on. It’s very one-note. You get chocolate, and then more chocolate, without layers or complexity.
Texture
Where I think this cookie falls a bit short is the texture. Unlike some of Crumbl’s best cookies that balance gooey, chewy, and crisp edges, the Dark Dream is on the drier side. The chocolate chunks help break it up, giving you melty pockets here and there, but overall it’s more of a dry, cakey bite than the fudgy cookie you expect from the name.
Balance
There isn’t much balance to speak of here. With cookies like the S’mores Skillet or even the Salted Caramel Cheesecake, Crumbl layers flavors and textures to keep you interested. The Dark Dream? It’s a straight shot of chocolate. For some people, that’s perfect — but for others, it’s going to feel heavy and even a little boring after a couple bites.
Portion
It’s a big cookie, like all of Crumbl’s offerings, but this is one of those that’s hard to finish in one sitting. A few bites in, you start to feel weighed down by the dryness and richness. Sharing it or splitting it over a couple of sittings is probably the best way to enjoy it.
Overall Experience
The Dark Dream cookie is exactly what the name says — dark chocolate, all the way through. If that’s your dream, you’ll be happy. But if you’re looking for something dynamic or craveable week after week, this probably isn’t it. I’d put it firmly in the “worth trying once” category.
Would I order it again? Maybe, if I was in the mood for something unapologetically chocolate and paired it with a glass of milk or a latte. But compared to Crumbl’s more balanced creations, it doesn’t climb into my top tier.
